Job overview

The post holder will work as part of a ward or department in providing compassionate care to patients, service users, carers and families. This pivotal role is essential in providing care and support to patients and service users through direct and indirect care, working within clearly defined limits and attainment of agreed competence.

The post holder will work without constant direct supervision using initiative within the level of competence for the post.

The post holder will act as a role model at all times, reflecting the Trust values and behaviours and delivering high standards of care.

The post holder will be self-aware and open to receive and learn from feedback.

The post holder will act as an advocate on behalf of patients and service users, recognising, respecting and responding to the diverse needs of our population.

The post holder will undertake a range of clinical skills to assist medical and nursing colleagues with investigations and procedures.

Main duties of the job

Our Care Support Workers carry out assigned tasks involving direct patient care in support of and supervised by a Registered Nurse. You will work as an integrated member of the ward team, assisting with nursing procedures according to agreed policies. You will maintain the patient's dignity and self-respect at all times and achieving a high standard of care. Our Care Support Workers have an allocated base-ward but they are expected to work in different areas within the hospital as required You will be accountable for ensuring the highest standard of care is delivered and will constantly promote: patient safety, effective care and a positive patient experience at each stage of the patient’s journey. Our Care Support Workers are expected to work a combination of days, nights and weekends including Bank Holidays and Christmas Day.

  • Early – 07:15 to 15:15
  • Late – 12:15 to 20:15hrs
  • Night – 19:45hrs to 07:45hrs
  • Long Day – 07:15hrs to 20:15h

  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (RQF accredited) or NHS England accredited Care Certificate, with evidence of full completion of the knowledge and work based assessments / relevant experience
  • Moving and Handling Certificate
  • Evidence of practical training or education in a care setting
  • Basic Life Support Certificate

Desirable

  • Previous experience in rehab setting
  • Practical skills in providing essential aspects of care.
