An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced individual to join the Cancer Services team as Cancer Data Manager. The successful candidate will have a background of data analysis and interpretation, with an ability to communicate with a broad range of stakeholders in relation to cancer pathways.
The post holder will oversee Cancer data uploads including CWT, COSD and audits for example, and will ensure that the Trust's databases relating to cancer are up to date and maintained. There will also be aspects of project management within the role, as outlined by the Cancer Manager.
Please note that the post is fixed-term for a period of 12 months.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will lead on providing robust and high quality data analytics, supporting managers and staff across the Trust with a breadth and depth of analysis to optimize cancer services and improve cancer performance.
- The post holder will be required to have specialist subject knowledge and experience to apply a range of analytical methods to cancer specific data, for national, regional and internal submission.
- They are expected to take a proactive approach to providing advice on the National Cancer Waiting Times Guidance, explaining complex concepts, and presenting cancer data to a range of audiences in a clear and accessible manner.
- They are responsible for maintaining high quality data information systems and ensure provision of reliable data modelling, and cancer data training to the wider Trust.
- Ensure that any new system/upgrades to systems affecting cancer services are tested thoroughly and kept up-to-date.
- Ensure the functionality of IT systems are utilized to maximise the benefits to users and support the delivery of effective Cancer MDT meetings
- Responsible for all Cancer Services data uploads, including CWT, COSD and requests made via SWAG or Wessex Cancer Alliances.

- Able to build and present complicated and various types of data models including forecasting performance or capacity and demand modelling

Education
Essential
- Educated to degree level in relevant subject or analytical discipline or equivalent experience
- Educated to post-graduate/masters level or equivalent experience in information and analysis
Knowledge
Essential
- Highly developed specialist knowledge of information analysis and the use of information across the NHS
- Experience querying systems and triangulating large amounts of data from different sources
- Experience in using mixed method approaches e.g. qualitative and quantitative to provide evaluation and apply critical thinking when decision making or problem solving for relevant services
- Able to deliver a programme of analytical work that considers and reflects the wider health care system or specific sector context, on a regional scale
- Able to influence the development of data analytics in relevant specialist area through networking beyond organisational boundaries, to understand and optimise service delivery
- Can communicate and present highly complex data analysis to a diverse range of recipients in a concise and understandable format
