The Role

This post will contribute to the provision of dedicated person-centred support in the cancer pathway. There is strong evidence of increased patient uncertainty and anxiety during cancer treatment. this post seeks to support communication and coordination of support to patients and families on their pathway. The post will promote connectivity between services within cancer services, Local authorities, Health and Social and third sector providers. The main objective is to facilitate patient and family support with appropriate support as an integral component as part of the cancer specific specialist nursing teams.

The post holder will work with all members of the tumour specific multidisciplinary cancer teams and will be responsible for ensuring that a single point of contact will be available to people affected by cancer. They will facilitate the treatment journey working closely with specialist nursing teams. This will facilitate specialist nurses being as patient focused as possible on providing clinical care. This will enable patients to receive ongoing accessible support.

In this key role:

Cancer Nursing Teams work across the specific Multi-disciplinary team, providing a key responsibility in patient management. CNS’s are pivotal in supporting and coordinating local cancer care and services. Furthermore, they provide support and guidance to patients and families who have a cancer diagnosis. They have significant responsibility in ensuring the hub and spoke regional oncology service functions to support patients and families.

CNS’s provide a holistic approach to cancer care providing continuity and support to patients in an increasingly pressurised environment.

The addition of Cancer Care Navigators into the nursing teams to directly support nursing team activity has proven to be extremely beneficial to patients and has supported productivity of CNS’s services and the organisation.

What You'll Bring:

  • HND Business Administration or equivalent experience
  • Experience within a hospital or similar healthcare setting
  • Effective organisational skills and ability to manage complex situations
  • Ability to develop and implement administrative systems and processes
