Are you an administrator in need of a change?  Do you have the skills to make a difference?  We are looking for a Bookings Co-ordinator to join St Mark's Gastroenterology booking team.

We are looking for committed, caring, willing to learn, dedicated person with attention to details.

The post holder will be the first point of contact for patients, healthcare professionals and members of the public who contact the service, working in a busy office environment with a multi-disciplinary team consisting of administrators, doctors and nurses.

The successful candidate will be proficient in the use of IT systems, using the hospital electronic booking system to book new and follow-up patient appointments, answering the emails and the telephone inquiries.

The successful candidate will be proficient in the use of Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and email and must have general office experience. Full training and access to other programs will be provided. Experience of database use would be useful.

Main duties of the job

To provide comprehensive administration services to support all functions of St Mark’s Gastroenterology Out-patient Booking Hub in delivering an effective and timely referral management and appointment booking service for referrers and to support patients and patient carers through the patient pathway for a range of clinical services.

The post holder will be required to undertake a range of tasks, including effective appointment booking, accurate data input on the relevant clinical system, processing of referrals, uploading and processing of clinical information, the use of scripts and involvement in service improvement projects on an ad hoc basis.

The post holder is required to ensure that all duties are carried out to a high professional standard whilst delivering a friendly, patient-centred service.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience in admin role with patients in NHS
  • Computer literate with proficient use of office software including microsoft word and excel
  • An understanding of data protection and confidentiality
  • Experience in maintaining and updating databases
  • Understanding of patient pathways in NHS
  • Experience of organizing and prioritizing own workload

Desirable

  • Knowledge and understanding of basic medical terminology

Eduation and qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to A-Level/NVQ level 3 or equivalent
  • 5 GCSEs graded C or above or equivalent

Desirable

  • Educated to degree level

Skills, Abilities and Attributes

Essential

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication
  • Assertiveness skills and the confidence to deal diplomatically with a wide range of people and situations
  • Ability to work without supervision and within deadlines on a variety of tasks
