Job Summary / Main Purpose
The post holder will lead a team that demonstrates person-centred care, through role-modelling this approach to care in their own practice. In addition, the post holder will provide a leadership role for the theatres, as well as support in the development of the care setting, seeking opportunities for learning and development. He/ she will deputise in the absence of the Sister/ Charge Nurse for the individual theatre as well as the department as a whole, both during core working hours and Out of hours.
They will also take individual responsibility for designated roles as assigned by the Sister/ charge nurse e.g. Staff rosters, mandatory training and clinical supervision Drawing on own expertise, the post holder will disseminate expert evidence based knowledge and skills in order to continuously develop self and others.
Main Duties / Responsibilities
Clinical Team Leader
Role models and enables effective communication with patients and relatives to assist in their understanding of their illness, care and treatment.
Adopts a questioning approach to existing practices and constantly seeks ways of improving care delivery based on available evidence.
As a member of the multi-disciplinary team, co-ordinates care to ensure that it is effective and holistic.
Is active in the orientation and induction of all new staff.
Observes signs of ill health or stress in staff assigned to the team/department and takes appropriate action in consultation with the staff member.
Leads activities that contribute to the continuous development of effective and efficient team processes.
Education Research and Practice Development
Participates in staff appraisal.
Fosters an atmosphere conducive to learning for all grades of staff within the department in order to meet the objectives of the Belfast Trust.
Ensure that nursing staff use every available opportunity to teach and develop staff with in clinical area.
Ensure that nursing students and post-registration students receive relevant clinical experience, teaching and supervision in the clinical area.
Takes every opportunity to role model effective practices by working with other staff delivering patient care and using opportunities to reflect on care experiences.
Uses reflection as a learning tool and facilitates others in the development of reflective practice.
Leads the continuous development of effective person-centred nursing care practices.
Seeks opportunities through audit and evaluation to develop the context of practice in the department thus creating an environment that supports person centred practices.
Creates opportunities in the team to reflect on practice in order to continuously challenge the espoused philosophy of care and identify areas for development.
Takes responsibility for their own professional development in line with NMC requirements.
Act as a role model for other nursing staff in the clinical area, working with them to demonstrate and promote high standards of clinical treatment and nursing care, coaching them to deliver care to these standards.
Participates in the implementation of research for the enhancement of patient care and develops processes in the department for engaging in the critique of evidence and supporting others in using research.
Management
Collaborates with line manager in setting the standards of care to be achieved within the department consistent with available resources.
Ensures DHSSPS and NMC guidelines for the safe handling, administration and storage of medicinal products are adhered to.
Ensures that nursing staff are aware of and act in accordance with all relevant Belfast Trust policies.
Ensures that staff are aware of and act in accordance with regulations that pertains to the department as laid down by statutory bodies.
Role models effective communications within the department.
Acts up in the absence of line manager as and when required according to the needs of the service.
Participates in selection and interviewing of staff.
Participates in promoting good interpersonal relationships among team members and users of the service.

Environmental Cleaning Strategy
The Trusts Environmental Cleaning Strategy recognizes the key principle that “Cleanliness matters is everyone’s responsibility, not just the cleaners” Whilst there are staff employed who are responsible for cleaning services, all Trust staff have a responsibility to ensure a clean, comfortable, safe environment for patients, clients, residents, visitors, staff and members of the general public.
Infection Prevention and Control
The Belfast Trust is committed to reducing Healthcare associated infections (HCAIs) and all staff have a part to play in making this happen. Staff must comply with all policies in relation to Infection Prevention and Control and with ongoing reduction strategies. Standard Infection Prevention and Control Precautions must be used at all times to ensure the safety of patients and staff.

Cleaning hands either with soap and water or a hand sanitiser at the appropriate times (WHO ‘5 moments’);
Using the correct ‘7 step’ hand hygiene technique;
Being ‘bare below the elbows’ when in a clinical environment;

Wearing the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE);
Ensuring correct handling and disposal of waste (including sharps) and laundry;
Ensuring all medical devices (equipment) are decontaminated appropriately
