Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Work as part of theatre team to assist or circulate for surgical procedures. • Work competently in a variety of specialities for Paediatric and adult patients. • To practice in accordance with the NMC / HCPC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust policies and procedures. • Work within the Operating Theatre and ‘Out of Department’ areas undertaking competencies as required. • To be an effective team member. • Promote interdisciplinary working, with outcomes aimed at the best interests of patients and cohesive service delivery. • Train more junior staff and take part in the induction and orientation of new staff following appropriate training. • Participate in clinical supervision/appraisals/audits. • Take every opportunity to sustain and improve own knowledge and professional competence, reporting to senior staff any deficits that impinge on practice in a timely fashion whilst meeting the needs of the service. • Implement and evaluate care plans as appropriate to surgical requirement and patients condition. • Monitor and assess patient’s condition, responding to changes in condition, proposing / making changes to care plan as required. • To be aware of the management of drugs and to adhere to local policies and administer drugs as prescribed. • Handover and transferring responsibility of care to colleagues, ensuring appropriate information and care is relayed. • Direct and participates in the maneuvering and the positioning of both conscious and unconscious patients. • Act as a clinical and professional role model at all times and demonstrate specialist knowledge and high standards of clinical practice and provide support or advice when necessary. • Ensure all equipment has been regularly maintained Ensure all equipment is used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. • Ensure any equipment found to be faulty/unsafe should be removed from use and reported to the appropriate department.
