PMRT midwife
The specialist postholder is responsible for:
- Ensuring the PMRT processes are implemented 3. Assisting in the co-ordination of reviews across the maternity units 4. Developing action plans and learning events 5. Delivering training
Main duties of the job
Working closely with the consultant midwives and bereavement midwives’ cross site to manage the PMRT (Perinatal Mortality Review Tool) review processes for all eligible cases of intrauterine and neonatal deaths.
Identifying applicable cases, coordinating and managing the reviews, share learnings and implement changes to improve practice, in line with standards set by MBRRACE, NHS Resolution Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts & NHSR claims , and the National Bereavement Care Pathway.
They will work collaboratively with the bereavement team and wider maternity governance team to ensure effective communication systems are in place and to ensure excellent standards of care and compliance with national and local standards.
The role involves communicating with bereaved parents therefore, the PMRT Midwife must be able to manage with highly emotional family situations and be able to have difficult conversations with women and their families about pregnancy loss and potentially foetal abnormality.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

- Demonstrable understanding of PMRT
- Minimum of 3 years’ post qualification experience in Midwifery and 2 years relevant clinical or management experience
- Experience of working within a multi disciplinary team
- Ability to demonstrate awareness of research- based practice and sound knowledge of guidelines in the UK
- Excellent presentation skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external professionals
- Excellent standards of all round Midwifery knowledge and clinical skills and a commitment to family centered care
- Work autonomously within guidelines and sphere of professional practice
- Excellent IT skills
- Ability to maintain own statistics and provide written reports as required
Desirable
- Experience in quality improvement and of implementing changes in clinical practice in a service
- DCIQ experience
- Experience in maternity governance processes including CNST requirements
