Job summary
Are you a Registered Nurse with an interest in caring for Urology patients with both diagnosed Urology Cancers and Benign Urology?
If so, then we have an exciting opportunity for you to join a dynamic and forward-thinking Urology Team based at Good Hope and Solihull Hospital Urology Treatment Hub.
The post will be predominately based at Good Hospital but some cross site working at Solihull will also be required. The opening hours are Monday to Friday 08.00 - 18.00 with some opportunities for occasional weekend working. We are looking for a nurse with prior urology/oncology experience, but further support will also be provided.
You will possess excellent communicational skills, be a valid team player, be supportive and be able to prioritise patient care and expand on the Urology profile, including supporting pre-registration students during their Higher Education Institute pathway.
To use up to date knowledge and evidence to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care, communicate findings, influence change and promote health and best practice.
To achieve and maintain competence in identified mandatory and statutory training, develop and maintain clinical competencies, skills and knowledge which relate to the area of clinical practice.
Main duties of the job
Main duties will include supporting renal cancer and bladder cancer patients through their pathway.
Assist Consultants and Specialist Nurses within the clinic environment in undertaking outpatient clinics.
Be an active member of the Urology MDT.
Complete referrals to the wider MDT further support.
Where needed support and assist in
*Flexible Cystoscopies
*Prostate Biopsies
*Trial without catheter
*Teaching catheterisation
*Administration of intravesical chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other therapeutic drugs
*Performing flow rates / bladder scans / catheterisation
*Referral of patients to other services eg District Nurse.
*Removal of ureteric stents
*Assisting in any novel, ambulatory, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures
*Support the day-to-day department activity.
*Support pre-registration nursing students during their HEI's Urology Pathway
*To be a role model for junior staff, acting as deputy in the absence of the line and/or unit manager

Experience
Essential
- *Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC
- *Significant post registration experience, with evidence of passion/ enthusiasm and knowledge for the associated area of specialist practice
- *Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of on-going professional development/ competence
- *Demonstrate specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to speciality
- *Experience and enthusiasm for teaching/assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting
- *Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment
- *Demonstrate understanding / experience / willingness to be a practice-based supervisor / assessor as detailed in the NMC
Desirable
- *Experience in service development
- *Specialist nurse experience
- *Understanding of renal cancer pathway
- *Understanding of bladder cancer pathway
Qualifications
Essential
- *Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration
- *Evidence of post registration CPD / post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or professional knowledge supplemented by specialist experience and short courses to FHEQ Level 6

- *Ability to explain the requirement to balance clinical caseload and developing skills, knowledge and competence
- *Willingness to achieve competence in a range of clinical skills and expanded practices

- *Ability to work a varied shift pattern where required and ability to work across UHB sites or off site in NHS premises where required
