An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and suitably skilled Occupational Therapist to join our vascular team based in the University Hospital of Wales. The vascular team is part of the South East Wales vascular network providing interventions regionally and locally. You will gain experience in vascular surgery, including amputation, and be enabled to develop your skills and knowledge. You will be part of the larger surgery team in UHW and UHL.

This is an exciting period as we are currently operationalising our OT strategy across surgery providing the opportunity to engage in service development ensuring we provide the best value to our service users.

Main duties of the job

You will work with patients with a range of complex needs following vascular surgical interventions, developing knowledge and skills within this specialist service.

You will have opportunity to consolidate clinical skills, build experience and invest in quality improvement developments.

You will be supported with induction/training and supervision. Development will be supported underpinned by the RCOT Pillars of Practice and Cardiff and Vale Occupational Therapy Strategy. You will deliver occupationally focused practice, delivering outcomes that matter to people using evidence based practice and research.

A seven-day service is delivered in some services.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE

The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner and will have relevant post registration experience for the role and will undertake specialist clinical duties as required within a defined specialist clinical area.

To work alongside members of the multidisciplinary team to deliver Occupational Therapy services to citizens within a defined specialist clinical area. This will include citizens with multi-pathology and complex needs, using evidence-based citizen centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions and maintain associated records. They will have responsibility for managing their own specialist clinical caseload. In addition, they will provide clinical supervision and support to Occupational Therapists, student and support staff.

The post will allow the experienced Occupational Therapist, with existing post-graduate knowledge and skills to further develop specialist practice. The postholder will jointly agree a job plan and objectives which will be reviewed yearly as part of the UHB appraisal process.

The post holder will be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified. They may be required to work their normal contracted hours flexibly, in a variety of different working patterns, in response to the needs of the service where they are placed. For example, this could include working their contracted hours as part of a 7-day job plan or working their hours over a pattern that includes extended days and unsocial hours.
