We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated Band 6 Dental Nurse Manager for a 12month fixed term/secondment position based at Birmingham Dental Hospital. Role to support the full Group 2 portfolio (Unscheduled  Care, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Special Care, Paediatrics, Orthodontics & DOC)

Discussions to be had re: portfolio responsibility with successful candidate.

This role will include responsibility for the management and development of all support staff to ensure the smooth running of the Service. As a Dental Nurse Manager, you will be able to demonstrate good leadership skills, ability to manage change in clinical practice and processes.  You will also be able to demonstrate the ability to independently make sound clinical and leadership judgment and regularly supervise the workload of junior colleagues.

We are looking for an individual who is innovative, forward-thinking,, dynamic, flexible and has strong leadership qualities in a fast paced environment.  The post holder will work in close collaboration with the Dental Matrons, Service Mangers, Group Managers, Group Clinical Managers, Clinicians and Heads of Services.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties

To work flexibly within a dental team providing high quality care to a wide spectrum of patients across localities within the integrated Dental Service BDH, CDS and mobile clinics and/or additional external sites as required to be the conduit for service-wide communication for certain specialities or a locality.  This includes attendance at meetings on behalf of the Dental Matron.

Responsible for the ordering of equipment and stock ensuring efficient control of levels within one locality or certain specialities by vetting all orders and maintaining commitment accounting system.  Support the Clinical Leads, Divisional Director of Nursing and Therapies, Heads of Service and Dental Matron in the financial management of the service.

Participate in the management and improvement of an integrated Dental Service to include the development of policies and protocols as appropriate.

Manage Dental Nurses and support staff at all grades including staff appraisal and development and identification of training needs.  Co-ordinate post qualification training of Dental support staff.
