An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and compassionate Band 5 Registered Nurse to join the Chemotherapy Day Unit at North Middlesex Hospital.
We are seeking an enthusiastic nurse with experience in both oncology and an acute hospital setting who is passionate about delivering high-quality, patient-centred cancer care. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT), supportive treatments and holistic care to patients throughout their cancer journey.
Applicants may already hold a recognised SACT qualification and competency passport, or be willing to undertake Trust-approved SACT training and achieve full competency within six months of appointment.
This is an excellent opportunity for a nurse wishing to develop specialist oncology knowledge and skills within a supportive and dynamic service.
Main duties of the job
Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate individualised care for patients receiving cancer treatments.
Administer Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) and supportive treatments in accordance with Trust policies, national guidance and competency requirements.
Complete SACT competency training within six months of appointment if not already SACT trained.
Monitor patients throughout treatment, recognising and escalating adverse effects, treatment toxicities and oncological emergencies.
Undertake venepuncture, cannulation and care of central venous access devices following appropriate training and competency assessment.
Provide specialist information, support and education to patients and their families regarding treatment plans, side effects and symptom management.
Maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records using electronic systems and documentation.
Contribute to service improvement, clinical audit and quality assurance activities.
Support the learning and development of student nurses, newly qualified staff and healthcare support workers.

Experience
Essential
- Post-registration experience working in an acute hospital setting
- Experience working within an Oncology and/or Haematology setting
- Understanding of nursing issues relating to patients living with cancer
- Experience in intravenous therapy administration
- Cannulation and phlebotomy skills
Desirable
- Experience supporting student nurses and learners
- Evidence of participation in audit and quality improvement
Skills and aptitudes
Essential
- Knowledge of current advances and pathways of care relevant to oncology services
- Excellent communication skills and ability to build therapeutic relationships
- Knowledge of SACT administration principles and treatment toxicities
- Knowledge of clinical governance issues including incident reporting, complaints and risk management
- Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to recognise and escalate deterioration, oncology emergencies and treatment-related complications
- Ability to solve problems, prioritise workload and work to deadlines
- Ability to deliver safe, evidence-based patient care
