Job summary

Our autism assessment coordinators provide a key role in supporting assessment processes for children and young people with possible autism. Working under the supervision of qualified Psychologists and Therapists the successful candidate will support assessments for autism, engage with families as they wait for assessment, support and contribute to follow up processes and ensure effective communication with families.

The successful candidate will have an understanding of the service requirements, and an appreciation of the concerns and queries of patients and carers.

This post requires a self-motivated and professional individual with the confidence and ability to work on their own initiative and as part of a team within our standard operating procedures. The post holder will work with and support therapists to provide seamless service delivery

Main duties of the job

  • Conduct informal assessments as directed by HCPC registered Therapists and Clinical Psychologists
  • To communicate assessment findings effectively to the wider Autism Assessment team
  • To support & contribute to the follow-up process of multi disciplinary assessment for autism
  • To support & contribute to the effective communication of agreed advice post multi disciplinary assessment for autism
  • Support the implementation of strategies where appropriate
  • To signpost families to relevant services & assist onward referral processes where appropriate
  • Support the creation of materials/programmes
  • Participate in regular clinical and safeguarding supervision
  • Participate in regular team meetings

Job responsibilities

  • Sound educational background (4 GCSEs, grade C or above including English & Maths or equivalent)
  • Minimum Foundation Degree in related area or 60 credits level 4.
  • Or NVQ level 3 in relevant field
  • Previous experience of working with, or within, a children's therapy department , working with children and young people with autism in an educational setting
  • Experience of working with families & children
  • Experience of running groups with children
  • Experience of working in a supportive role as part of a team
  • Experience of working with computer software programmes such as Microsoft Office, e-mail and internet
  • Knowledge of child development
  • Awareness of communication impairment and / or learning difficulties
  • Sensitive to confidential environment
  • Understanding and knowledge of work policies and procedures (Data Protection Act)
