Associate Liver Clinical Nurse Specialist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Nurse with an interest in liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma to join our specialist Liver Nursing Team in a developmental role.

This post has been created to support the delivery of a Trust-wide liver service, ensuring patients receive high-quality, consistent care across Mid and South Essex. Working alongside the Liver Clinical Nurse Specialists, you will contribute to the development and delivery of specialist liver services across a range of clinical settings.

Supported by the Liver CNS team, you will play a key role in coordinating care, supporting patients throughout their treatment journey, and improving outcomes through patient education, early intervention, and effective pathway management. You will also support liver surveillance programmes and initiatives to enhance patient experience and service quality.

The role provides an excellent opportunity to develop specialist knowledge in hepatology while gaining exposure to clinical trials and research through close collaboration with the Trust’s Research and Development team.

This position is ideal for a motivated nurse looking to progress within a specialist field, combining clinical practice, service development, and research to support improved patient pathways, early diagnosis, and the continued growth of liver services across the organisation.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake and support diagnostic and monitoring procedures relevant to liver disease within scope of practice, ensuring timely escalation and follow-up of abnormal results in accordance with clinical protocols.
  • Act as a specialist resource for secondary and primary care, providing advice, education, and support to healthcare professionals to improve early identification, referral, and ongoing management of liver disease.
  • Contribute to improving patient pathways by facilitating timely access to investigations, supporting surveillance programmes, and reducing delays in diagnosis and treatment, ensuring continuity of care across services.
  • Support patient education and self-management by providing clear information on liver disease.
