Main duties of the job

Provide timely, accurate, and patient‑centred information to support safe Homecare delivery.

Support efficient processing of Homecare activity to avoid delays to patient treatment and payment processing.

Understands the role of wider team and act to  support colleagues appropriately. Maintain and develop personal knowledge and competence in line with the role, policies, and legislation. Support training and development of pharmacy staff, including systems and processes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To act as first point of contact for pharmacy homecare and high-cost drugs services, and to respond to enquiries from all Trust staff, patients and external suppliers, dealing with queries by email and over the telephone promptly and efficiently and referring onto the appropriate member of staff where necessary.

To plan, prioritise and organise the homecare administrative workload within pharmacy.

To work with the clinicians and Clinical Nurse Specialists to ensure prescriptions are received and processed in a timely manner.

To assist in the processing of orders and invoices for patient’s homecare medication.

To challenge and record any homecare invoice discrepancies and escalate where appropriate.

To participate in the service review meetings with homecare providers.

To be responsible for training, supervising and supporting the homecare clerical officer and supporting other rotational staff with respect to homecare medicines management.

To assist in the preparation, analysis and presentation of reports and information on financial drug data and usage within the agreed financial timescales.

To support with training of pharmacy, medical and nursing staff on the use of the Blueteq system.

Person specification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • General IT knowledge and experience.
  • Understanding of homecare medicine services.
  • Experience dealing with patients, service users or customers.
  • Experience handling confidential information accurately

Desirable

  • Experience with Pharmacy IT systems.
  • Experience in Pharmacy services
  • Experience in homecare processes and drug ordering pathways.
  • Experience supervising others or supporting team workflow.

Qualifications & Education

Essential

  • 5 GCSEs grade C/4 or above, including English & Maths.
  • ECDL or equivalent IT qualification

Desirable

  • Administration, management, or leadership-related qualification
