Ambulatory Care Staff Nurse
This is a unique opportunity to help shape and develop a brand new service!
We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated Band 5 to join our newly established Ambulatory Care Unit, delivering Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) and specialist cancer care to patients on the Oncology, Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) ambulatory pathway.
This innovative service has been designed to meet the needs of the patients, providing treatment and supportive care as well as specialist reviews, in an ambulatory setting that enables patients to receive high quality care, whilst maintaining as much normality in their daily lives as possible.
Operating 7 days a week from 08:00 - 20:00, this new unit will play a pivotal role in transforming cancer services within BHOC by providing timely treatment, reducing unnecessary hospital admissions and improving patient experience.
Main duties of the job
- Deliver SACT administration for Oncology, Haematology and BMT patients.
- Have a good understanding of Mosaiq booking system and how to book patients in efficiently.
- Work closely with senior staff nurses, supervisory sister, AP, medical, pharmacy and AHP teams to provide seamless patient centred care.
- Support and escalate patients who might arrive to the Ambulatory Care unit unwell, or become unwell during their ambulatory visit.
- Liaise with pathway navigator regarding inpatient bed requirements.

- Demonstrate competence in clinical skills relevant to the clinical area
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, able to communicate effectively with patients, carers and MDT
- Computer skills
- Competence in calculations for safe administration of medicines/fluids
- Ability to take the lead, initiate and ensure appropriate action in response to the deteriorating patient
- Clinical decision making ability
- Teaching/supervisory skills

Knowledge/Experience

- Broad knowledge and experience of clinical nursing practice within a hospital environment

Qualifications and Training
Essential
- RN (NMC registered) / or NVQ 3 Operating Department Practice pre 2004 or Diploma in Higher Education Operating Department Practice post 2004
- Current NMC registration / or current Health Professions Council registration for ODPs

- Work towards relevant university accredited post basic study programmes
- Current NMC registration / or current Health Professions Council registration for ODPs
Public Sector Language Competency
