Advanced Speech and Language Therapist Hull Special Schools and AAC

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Advanced Speech and Language Therapy post to provide a service for children and young people within Special Schools in Hull. Full-time and part-time applications will be considered.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in developing clinical pathways for delivering services within Hull Special Schools and for AAC users across Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.

The therapist will work within a small team of Speech and Language Therapists and Specialist Speech and Language Therapy Assistants in the Special Schools, while also being part of a larger service. They will work closely with other health professionals, educators, external agencies, and parents/carers to ensure communication and feeding needs are understood, supported, and embedded throughout the school day and beyond.

The wider Speech and Language Therapy Service spans the city of Hull and the county of the East Riding of Yorkshire. Hull is known for its maritime history and offers a range of theatres and dining opportunities. The county is renowned for its beaches, coastline, and rolling hills, making it ideal for exploring the outdoors. The area also has excellent transport links, including ferries to Europe, Humberside Airport offering international flights, and rail services to London, York, Edinburgh, and other UK cities.

Main duties of the job

• To provide a high-quality, comprehensive service in line with the guidance of Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust and the HCPC.
• To be clinically responsible and accountable for the specialist service areas of Hull Special Schools and AAC across the service.
• To continue to demonstrate advanced clinical skills in practice and provide support and advice regarding service development and the delivery of care, in partnership with patients, relatives, staff, commissioners, managers, and external agencies across the agreed service area.
• To employ excellent presentation skills to promote multidisciplinary and inter-agency liaison and collaborative practice to a broad range of audiences, including other professionals and service users.
• To continuously evaluate the level of clinical effectiveness through the use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures.
• To maintain knowledge of current research and clinical development.
• To keep accurate and contemporaneous records and case note documentation in line with departmental and professional guidelines.
