Activity Co-ordinator, Acute Inpatient Mental Health

We are recruiting a full time permenant Activity Co-ordinator, and a part time temporary Activity Co-ordinator, to our adult tretament wards at St Michael's Hospital. These roles will be based on our acute inpatient mental health wards, working under the direction of an Occupational Therapist, to provide and co-ordinate a range of daily social, recreational and physical activities. Activities are delivered on and off ward, and predominantley in groups. We invite applications from individuals who are empathetic, patient, motivated and organised. You will need to be physically fit, have a good interpersonal, written communication and IT skills.

Main duties of the job

To work with patients and staff to enable patient acess to a range of activities, whilst they recover from an acute mental health need. We are looking for motivated individuals who appreciate the value of meaningful activity for recovery. Activities delivered include range of exercises; leisure activities based on shopping and cooking, games, quizes, art, gardening, music, discussion, festivities; and supporting health and wellbeing acivities and initiatives. Applicants will be required to have knowledge and skills in the delivery of multiple types of activities. Engaging and motivating patients to enage in activities requires motivation and an understanding of the impact of mental ill health. The acute inpatient wards can be a challenging environment within which to work, so emotional resiliance and self care are key. The role provides lots of opportunity to develop and learn from working alongside a range of supportive members of the team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To provide a diverse programme of activities for all inpatient patients on wards.
  • To provide activities to a group of patients. These activities will include prescribed therapeutic interventions including daily physical activity, health education, patient meetings and social, recreational and diversional activity groups.
  • To provide activities on and off the ward, accessing the local community as required.
  • To ensure core interventions from the patient group are delivered constantly for all patient groups
