Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the ward clerk team on the Clinical Decisions Unit at the Glenfield Hospital. CDU is an acute admissions ward for cardiac and respiratory admissions with 27 beds and 16 trolleys, CDU take admissions 24 hours a day from ED, bed bureau and via 999 calls. SDEC is our same day emergency treatment unit with aim to avoiding unnecessary hospital admissions. Both areas work in conjunction with each other   You will be working a combination of 11.5 hour days and nights on a rota basis, ensuring that the needs of the unit are covered. SDEC hours are Monday to Sunday 09:30-22:00 Please note that this vacancy will close as soon as sufficient number of applications are received. Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for answering the telephone, dealing with enquiries, admitting patients on Nerve centre and Patient centre, transferring patients to other wards on Patient centre, discharging patients, filing and making up sets of notes.

The successful applicant should be computer literate and previous experience as a ward clerk within an NHS environment would be an advantage, however training can be given. A working knowledge of Trackit, Nerve centre and Patient centre would be beneficial.

The post requires you to have excellent communication skills and customer service abilities as you will be dealing with patients and their relatives. You will be require to work using your own initiative, managing your own workload as well as being part of the CDU team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To treat all patients, visitors and colleagues with courtesy and respect; maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintaining a clean and tidy environment, and reporting all incidents /accidents to Senior Staff.
  • To keep patient centre system up to date, including admission transfers and discharges of patients.
  • To be responsible for inpatient / outpatient notes ensuring: they are available and ready for use when needed.
  • To be responsible for collection and delivery of post.
  • Answer telephone calls and queries from clients, relatives and members of the multi-disciplinary team, forwarding enquiries to appropriate staff.
