We have an exciting opportunity to join our Urology Secretarial / Waiting List Officer Team based at Stepping Hill Hospital. As a member of the team, you will assist with managing waiting lists for elective surgery and working in accordance with Government Access targets to ensure patients are treated in line with Trust Access policies. You will also provide an effective and efficient Senior Medical Secretary role to named Consultants within the service.
This post is varied and includes contact with patients and many Health Care Professionals.
We are looking for an individual with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in an environment where demands and priorities change quickly. You must be well organised, able to work on your own initiative and demonstrate confidence in independent decision making.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for providing a comprehensive and effective secretarial, waiting list and administrative service to a Consultant (s) and their medical team.
To administrate waiting lists and organise patient admissions and pre-operative appointments.
To undertake the audio-typing of clinical and non-clinical correspondence within their specialty area.
The post holder will be required to use computerised systems such as Patient Centre, Advantis and the Big Hand Digital dictation system.
The successful candidate will possess excellent organisation, communication, typing skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To provide senior medical secretarial service directly to named Consultants.
- To take a lead role in managing the waiting list of a group of consultants. This will involve cross covering and supporting other specialities when required to support the team and services.
- Monitor the waiting list and work list daily to ensure Government Access Targets are not breached.
- To co-ordinate admission and associated pre-operative assessment clinics.
- To ensure RTT (18 week pathway) status is recorded accurately and is up to date.
- To collate information for clinical audits if required.
- Arranging appointments as required.
- To be responsible for and collation of investigation results.
- To deal with day to day incoming mail, assigning priority and/or taking any necessary action without reference to Consultant staff if necessary and within remit.
- Acting as first point of contact for all forms of communication for the consultant and their team
- Audio typing of clinical and non-clinical correspondence ensuring completion within national guidelines.

If successful this vacancy will require a Standard DBS check at a cost of £26.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary.
In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.
