Job overview

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced receptionist to join a friendly and supportive reception team in the Weymouth Urgent Treatment Centre.

This is a substantive part‑time float post, primarily providing reception cover for the Urgent Treatment Centre reception. This role is to provide planned and unplanned cover for annual leave and sickness and so the shift cover will be variable between 08:00–20:00, across a 7‑day service, scheduled in line with service requirements.

The role will be mainly based at Weymouth Community Hospital, with flexibility to work across sites in line with service needs.

The successful candidate will have strong IT, organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands. You will be a key point of contact, able to communicate effectively, build positive working relationships, and work with tact and discretion in a busy environment.

Main duties of the job

You must have excellent organisational skills and be comfortable working in a busy environment, handling enquiries from patients, relatives, and clinical colleagues face-to-face, by email, and over the phone.

You will be responsible for booking patients on arrival and updating health records using electronic systems. Duties include filing patient data, arranging appointments, processing referrals for patient pathways, emailing, and supporting discharge letter production and distribution.

The team also maintains local standard operating procedures, manages purchasing, collects data, and carries out general office tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver efficient administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of the department, while upholding strict confidentiality at all times.

Professionally liaise with patients, external organisations, services, and internal departments within the Trust.

Collaborate effectively as a team member, demonstrating strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Maintain clear and professional communication with all contacts.

Present a professional front-of-house appearance, adhering to the specified dress code: black/navy/white top paired with black/navy trousers or skirt.

Please note visa sponsorship for this role is unfortunately not available. Ensure you hold valid right to work in the UK and will not require sponsorship if successful.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

For the main duties and responsibilities for this role please read the attached job description and person specification.  When completing your application please ensure your supporting statement reflects the criteria set out in these documents by showing how your experience and skills apply to this post.

We understand that using AI can be a useful and supportive tool when completing your application.  However, we have also seen an increase in the over-reliance of AI tools which is negatively impacting applications as they remove candidate’s individuality, and it becomes much harder to get a sense of who you are and your authentic experience.  If you do use AI, it should be used to enhance your application and not to create your supporting statement in its entirety.  If we suspect you have used AI to create your supporting statement and this does not match your experience, we may withdraw your application.
