Main duties of the job
- We are looking to recruit a consultant with interest in oesophago-gastric cancer resection. The Oesophago-gastric cancer service covers East Riding of Yorkshire, Humberside and Northern Lincolnshire with a catchment population of approximately 1.1 million. The unit undertakes approximately 70 - 80 oesophago-gastric cancer resections per year.

Clinical Experience
Essential
- • Ability to manage a range of acute general surgical conditions and trauma
- • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
Personal Attributes

- • Ability to work flexibly in a changing health service
- • Excellent manner with patients, being sensitive to their needs and fears
- • Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional and national levels
Professional Registration
Essential
- • GMC Specialist Register for Upper GI
Qualifications and Training
Essential
- • FRCS or equivalent qualification
- • Valid ALS certificate
Desirable
- • Postgraduate qualification in Education or significant experience in post graduate training
Teaching, Audit and Research
Essential
- • Experience of supervising junior medical staff
- • Commitment to formal and informal teaching of medical staff, AHPs and medical students
- • Evidence of participation in audit
- • Ability to extrapolate clinical research evidence to care for individual patients
Desirable
- • Evidence of having conducted a practice-changing audit
Management and Administration Experience
Essential
- • Ability to lead a smooth and efficient running of the unit
- • Ability to organise, prioritise and manage high intensity workload
