This undergraduate medical education Clinical Teaching Fellow in Pharmacology and similar posts in other specialties have been established to enhance the teaching of medical students in the Trust and City St George’s Medical School. The majority of the post holder’s time will be spent on undergraduate teaching activities. Some time may be used either for clinical work to develop the individual’s career, or to complete a research project. The post holder will teach and co-ordinate students across clinical pharmacology and therapeutics to ensure that students are able to achieve their learning objectives. Clinical Teaching Fellows are connected through the CTF network to enhance the coordination of undergraduate clinical teaching of medical students.

Main duties of the job

• The successful candidate will play an important role in the development and delivery of clinical pharmacology, therapeutics and prescribing teaching to medical students on the City St George’s University MBBS programmes. Teaching will include small and large group lectures and workshops and development of self-directed learning materials and where relevant involvement in the Hospital Medicine Grand Rounds.
• Administrative tasks will include timetabling, updating student online resources/webpages and working closely with Consultant lead for MBBS Clinical Pharmacology and other members of the clinical pharmacology clinical and academic team.
• There are two MBBS programmes, a 5-year course in which students are predominantly school-leavers, and a 4-year ‘fast track’ course for graduate students. Students are admitted through a competitive selection process. The two courses merge for the clinical years.
• The post holder may be expected where relevant to participate in Student Grand Rounds and to liaise with similar post holders in identifying deficiencies and opportunities for clinical teaching across the Trust.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
