Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic Doctor interested in the specialty to join the HIV and Integrated Sexual Health teams at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) in Brighton – the UKs first fast track city.

This is a 6 month post in the Sexual Health/HIV Department at University Hospitals Sussex (UHS) in Brighton.

The post holder will staff integrated Sexual Health and contraception clinics and provide medical care to inpatients in the clinical infection unit. The department currently has a cohort of over 2,400 patients with HIV and sees approximately 34,000 attendances in the fully integrated Sexual health service per year and is a major centre for clinical research in HIV and Sexual Health. This is an ideal opportunity to gain experience in this dynamic specialty.

Main duties of the job

The post will be split between the SHAC Clinic and the Clinical infection Unit (Ward B6 & the Lawson Unit in the Louisa Martindale Building). The timetable will be flexible and varied. The post holder will be part of the MDT staffing the integrated Sexual Health and Contraception clinics (SHAC)  and depending on experience provide inpatient care to patients living with HIV and support patients in the emergency clinic in the Lawson Unit, The SHAC clinics operate from two sites, daily booked clinics at the Claude Nicol Clinic at RSCH and a ‘walk in appointment on the day’ clinic at Morley St in central Brighton.

On Wednesday mornings there is dedicated time for education and training with internal and external speakers, journal club, M&M and clinical governance meetings.

The post holder will be assigned a clinical supervisor/mentor within the consultant team and encouraged to develop their knowledge and progress their career through appropriate CPD. The Department is very research active so there will be opportunity to be involved in clinical research and be involved in audit and quality improvement projects. Staff are encouraged to submit work to national conferences and there is a departmental education fund to support attendance if successful.

Clinical Duties

  • Staffing integrated SHAC clinics

  • Potential On Call Commitment: 1:5. Weekdays 5-8pm, Saturday 08.00-20.00, no Sundays

The post holder will either be staffing the inpatient ward 08.30 to 17.00 Monday – Friday or staffing SHAC clinics 09.00 - 17.00 or 10.00 - 18.00.
