This post is a Trust doctor (ST3+ equivalent) in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in St Richard’s Hospital. An exciting opportunity to work in a friendly, dynamic, forward thinking department with consultants at the forefront of their fields of expertise. Applicants must have completed Foundation competencies as part of the UK Foundation programme or demonstrate equivalent training, and must also be able to provide evidence of completion of end-ST2 level competences as per the RCOG training matrix.

Applicants should have experience working at  ST3+ level, ideally within the UK. Basic Life Support training is essential. Candidates require current and valid GMC registration.

St Richard’s has a full range of day surgery and more complex open surgery. There are MDMs and a thriving cross site teaching timetable including a journal club with excellent teaching opportunities. Colposcopy and outpatient hysteroscopy lists are performed at St Richard’s as well as supervision for most of the RCOG SITMs. We have an excellent postgraduate education centre with easy access to IT and library support. Simulation both low and high-fidelity sessions, Laparoscopic simulator, and Ultrasound Scan Simulation (USS) training are well established.

The successful candidate is encouraged to perform audits, projects and publish articles. All doctors in training are allocated named educational supervisors experienced in the use of eportfolio and WpBA tools.

Main duties of the job

  • The post is for doctors wishing to gain clinical experience at a ST3+ level in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
  • The post offers a wide range of experience in all areas of the specialty.
  • Whilst this post is not recognised for training, the appointee will be supported by a named educational supervisor.
  • The post holder will contribute to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology inpatient and outpatient services as well as being part of the second on call rota with an on call frequency of 1 in 8. There is a consultant present for 65 hours a week and then on call from home.
  • The job involves a rotation including long days, weekend days on call and a set of nights on call every 8 weeks with compensatory time off following. The rolling rota of long days and night shifts will be available prior to starting the job. An early pregnancy assessment clinic (EPAC) runs Monday to Friday.
  • Duties will involve working on the labour ward, reviewing obstetric and gynaecology (including early pregnancy) emergencies and looking after antenatal, postnatal and gynaecology inpatients as well as attending antenatal and gynaecology clinics.
  • There will be opportunities to attend elective gynaecology and obstetric theatres.
  • The post holder will also be encouraged to take part in departmental teaching and quality improvement work
  • There is good exposure available to MDM meetings and opportunities to take active roles in these meetings and clinical governance days as part of the job.
