Trust Doctor (eqv ST1-2) in Integrated Sexual Health: 6 months fixed term (with extension to 12 months)
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated doctor to work in Barts Health NHS Trust Sexual Health Services as a clinical fellow in a 6-12 month fixed term post, to commence in August 2026. Following an induction programme, the main portion of the post holder’s job plan will be to work in integrated sexual health clinics with supervision as needed.
We operate 2 Centres of Excellence and multiple satellite services for Sexual Health across our East London network seeing over 100,000 attendances per year. We offer services 6 days a week including evening clinics. The population is hugely diverse and a wide range of presentations attend every day. The post-holder will be based at the Sir Ludwig Guttmann Centre in Stratford, Newham.
The post is suitable for those interested in pursuing a career in Genitourinary Medicine or Community Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare. This post will provide a fantastic chance to gain wide clinical experience, excellent supervision and many teaching and training opportunities in integrated sexual health.
We would expect applicants to have acquired some general or specialist medical experience working in the NHS; previous experience in HIV or sexual health would be an advantage but is not necessary as training will be given.
Main duties of the job
As part of a reconfiguration of services in North East London, Barts Health were successful in the procurement of 2 Centres of Excellence (CoEs), Ambrose King Centre (AKC) in Whitechapel and Sir Ludwig Guttmann (SLG) in Stratford and 5 satellite services in the London Boroughs of Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest. Both CoEs operate open access booked and walk-in appointment services 6 days a week including 4 evenings seeing level 3 contraception and sexual health patients. The annual activity is approximately 100,000 attendances per year.
HIV Department:
Barts Health has an HIV cohort of approximately 5000 patients who are managed from 3 clinical sites: Graham Hayton Unit (Royal London Hospital), The Greenway Centre (Newham General Hospital) and Sir Ludwig Guttmann Centre (SLG), Stratford. The cohorts at Newham and Stratford (approximately 1500 patients) are predominately females of African origin with > 40% over the age of 50. The HIV department at Royal London site serves over 3,500 patients. The three sites operate as a unified network with shared IT, prescribing and staff. Barts Health provides tertiary HIV in-patient care and serves the population of East London and Essex. There are currently 5 WTE HIV consultants and SH/GUM consultants who are also providing HIV care to our cohort. Our wider MDT includes specialist HIV nurses (band5/6/7,8A) including 2 community nurse specialists, who aid in managing our lost to follow-up cohort.
