Trainee Specialist Community Public Health Nurse/School Nurse, Band 6 / annex 21 Para 2 (ii)
NHS Tayside has an exciting opportunity for a compassionate Registered Nurse to join our School Nursing Service in Dundee. This rewarding role offers the chance to make a real difference to the health, wellbeing and outcomes for children and young people.
Working as part of a supportive team, you will hold a delegated caseload. While delivering the 10 priority School Nurse pathways you will work in partnership with children, young people, families and multiagency colleagues to identify and support health needs for a designated population group, based on the principles of Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) National Practice Model. Your work will include supporting care experienced young people, children subject to child protection processes, and those experiencing emotional health and wellbeing concerns.
A sound understanding of child protection, trauma informed practice, and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) will be key, alongside the confidence to assess risk, make professional judgments, and deliver timely, compassionate interventions autonomously.
Applicants must be a UK NMC Registered Nurse educated to degree level, with a commitment to professional development. The successful candidate will be supported by NHS Tayside to progress as a trainee on the Advanced Nursing Practice (School Nursing) programme at Robert Gordon University, delivered via supported distance learning. As a trainee pay is determined as a percentage of the pay for qualified staff, in accordance with Annex 21 Paragraph 2 (ii) of the Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions.
For periods of training lasting for between one and four years, pay will be adjusted as follows:
- More than three years from completion of training; 60% of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate;
- More than two but less than three years prior to completion of training; 65% of the pay maximum for the qualified rate;
- More than one but less than two years prior to completion of training; 70% of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate;
- Up to twelve months prior to completion of training; 75% of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate
NB. Annex 21: Arrangements for pay and banding of trainees, 9: Where an existing substantive employee of the employing NHS Board moves to undertake a training role and this would result in a reduction in earnings, the following arrangements will apply. The individual will remain on their existing band and earnings level, including any incremental progression and pay award uplifts, until the conclusion of their training period.
Successful candidates will commence the Postgraduate Diploma in Advancing Practice at the earliest opportunity.
