Job overview

We have exciting opportunities for Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners to join Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Talking Therapies service for Anxiety and Depression. We are passionate about delivering high quality psychological therapy for people in our community and supporting the wellbeing and clinical development of our staff.  The post is a training role within the NHS Talking Therapies Programme. You will work within the service providing low intensity interventions at Step 2, whilst undertaking a programme of training for this role at University of Exeter. The training post will equip trainee PWPs to provide a range of low intensity cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) based self- management interventions to patients with mild to moderate anxiety and depression. They will attend all taught University and self-study days required by the education provider, as specified within National Low Intensity curriculum, and work in the service using their newly-developed skills.

You will be providing IN PERSON treatment in Cornwall. Please use the PCN Map in the documents to specify in your supporting statement which area you could work (East/North, Mid, West). Interviews will be held in Cornwall. You will need to bring your Level 2 Maths and English qualifications and your relevant Level 5 qualification. If this is not present, we cannot continue with the interview process. If successful at interview, you will attend a further interview with the University of Exeter.

Main duties of the job

Successful applicants will have strong interpersonal skills, an understanding of common mental health difficulties and how they present in primary care services, and must hold the relevant levels of academic study for the post.

As a Trainee PWP you will use your current skills and develop those to provide Talking Therapies assessments and low intensity evidence based CBT interventions, using the principles of guided self help in line with the NICE-recommended stepped care model. Patient care is delivered by phone, face to face and by video through the online platform Attend Anywhere.

In the role you will be required to complete accurate assessment of risk to self and others. You will provide patient centred care, collaboratively working with patients to support them with achieving their goals for therapy. You will also be required to make onward referrals or signpost patients to alternative services should Talking Therapies not be the appropriate service.

For your trainee role, your duties include attending to your academic responsibilities. You will be expected to attend all of your University days, follow the processes and guidance provided by the University, complete the assignments set, engage in additional reading and complete your online portfolio within the timeframes outlined by the University.

This is a community-based role that requires frequent travel to various locations throughout the county including areas that may not be accessible by public transportation.
