Job overview

The post-holder is responsible for the direct clinical care and support of individual patients and patient groups within their area of work. They will work across all areas of the fracture clinic, including the plaster room and outpatient clinics, as required to meet service needs.

The role requires flexibility, including occasional evening and weekend shifts.

Following successful integration into the department, the post-holder will complete training for the BOA (British Orthopaedic Association) Casting Certificate, supported by in-post departmental training over approximately 12 months.

The post-holder must be willing to attend the 6-week residential British Casting Certificate course, which includes practical and theoretical examinations. Eligibility requires a minimum of one year’s experience working in a plaster room.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure self and colleagues adhere to infection control best practices and policies in all clinical work, seeking advice from senior staff or the infection control team as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and clear documentation of all nursing care and communication with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Communicate sensitively with patients and relatives, providing relevant information regarding care and progress.
  • Support the department manager in implementing change and service developments.
  • Prepare clinical areas for clinics and demonstrate awareness and competence in decontamination procedures and policies.
  • Assist clinicians in undertaking sterile procedures as required.
  • Organise own workload and take responsibility for maintaining the work area.
  • Ensure safe and appropriate storage of substances hazardous to health.
  • Clean and maintain clinical equipment, reporting faults promptly and accurately to EBME.

The post holder will be required to work flexible working patterns including evenings and weekend working occasionally.

The post holder will be required to complete training for the BOA (British orthopaedic Association) casting certificate after successful integration within all the department roles. Training will be given once in post prior to attending the course, training takes approximately 12 months.
