Clinical Engineering also has a lead role in safety critical areas when medical equipment is used. This includes: the adaptation of existing equipment; investigation of adverse incidents (adverse events and near misses involving medical equipment) and initiating appropriate action; determining necessary action required following receipt of DoH Safety Notices and ensuring that the work is completed; contribution to the training of clinical staff in the safe use of medical equipment.
Main duties of the job
Applications are welcomed from candidates who do not currently hold formal registration, or who are working towards technician-level competence, where they can demonstrate the required values, aptitude, experience, and ability to meet the relevant essential criteria.
Candidates who do not hold current formal registration should review the Band 4 Trainee Job Description and Person Specification. Where a candidate meets the requirements for the Band 4 Trainee role, appointment may be made at that level, subject to the outcome of a fair and consistent recruitment process. Where appropriate, apprenticeship, inhouse training, and structured training routes may be supported in line with service needs, role requirements, and organisational policy. Progression into a more senior role, such as a Band 6 post, would not be automatic. Any future appointment to a higher-banded role would be subject to an open, fair, transparent, and merit-based recruitment process, in line with UK employment law, equality legislation, NHS recruitment standards, and local organisational policy. Candidates would be assessed against the agreed job description, person specification, and role requirements at the time of recruitment.
The post-holder provides a calibration, maintenance and repair service to critical care areas, Operating Theatres, Accident & Emergency, Endoscopy, medical wards and outpatient departments. Post is based at Lincoln County Hospital but travel to other ULTH sites is required.
