Job overview

We are offering the opportunity for a Trainee Applied Psychologist (forensic, counselling or health psychology) in or approaching their final year of doctoral study, to join our team of Psychologists/psychological practitioners working into Telford Local Authority's Family Safeguarding service. The post is fixed term for a twelve-month period.

The Family Safeguarding Parent Mental Health Service is delivered by Psychologists employed by Midlands Partnership Foundation NHS Trust (MPFT) and embedded within Telford County Council's Family Safeguarding Service. The service aims to provide timely mental health assessments, risk evaluations, and evidence-based psychological interventions for parents involved in child protection, who may otherwise struggle to access mental health services. The post involves working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including Children's Social Workers, Drug and Alcohol Recovery Workers, Domestic Abuse Practitioners, and Strengthening Families.

This is a varied and dynamic role aimed to meet the mental health needs of parents, and you will be well supported by both the existing psychological practitioners working into Family Safeguarding, and the wider large group of Psychologists and psychological practitioners in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.

For more information about the role, you are warmly welcomed to contact the Lead Psychologist for Family Safeguarding, Dr Kiran Sidhu [email protected]

The role includes offering specialist assessment, formulation, and interventions for parents involved in child protection, providing specialist advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals, in particular social workers.
