Main duties of the job

As a Therapy Assistant at The Bridge in Middlesborough, you will provide care and therapeutic pathways for individuals with neurological or mental health conditions, where challenging behavior is often the main impairment. Your main duties include assisting with therapy programs alongside Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, SALT, and Dietitians. You will support service users in their recovery, helping them achieve their goals by preparing and assisting in therapeutic activities both in group and individual settings. Your responsibilities will include creating one-on-one rapports to enhance service user engagement, monitoring and adjusting therapy plans under supervision, and ensuring accurate documentation and reporting. You are expected to participate actively in evaluating service provisions and adjust plans as needed. You will also undertake necessary training, ensure effective communication within the team, respect client confidentiality, and adhere to health and safety standards. Your aim will be to help service users regain independence, while maintaining compliance with legislative procedures and Elysium's policies.

As a Therapy Assistant, you will be responsible for participation in the evaluation of service provisions and activities and will ensure all sessions are observed, reported and recorded. Under supervision, you will make necessary adjustments to service users plans according to their changing needs and abilities.

As a Therapy Assistant you will be:

  • Undertaking basic procedures as instructed by a qualified therapist respecting the clients privacy, dignity, religious and cultural beliefs.
  • Reporting any change in service user condition, circumstances or response to treatment appropriately and immediately.
  • Maintaining effective communication within the team and between clients, visitors and colleagues.
  • Ensuring written/computerised documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Handling and exchanging information with care and sensitivity maintaining clinical confidentiality at all times.
  • Attending in service training and development to learn techniques required to support the senior colleagues.
  • Assisting with ensuring a safe environment.
  • Committed to helping individuals regain their maximum independence.
  • Compliant with legislative procedures. Health and Safety, COSHH, Fire and Manual Handling.
  • Compliant with Elysium policies and procedures.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • GNVQ 3 or evidence of willingness to undergo training.
  • Experience working in a care and or therapy environment.
  • Be able to successfully complete in service training and development programme to learn techniques required to support therapists in providing high quality resident care.
  • Be able to understand and follow instructions accurately and to learn new skills quickly.
  • Have effective oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality and implication of non- compliance.

Location: Lower East Street, Middlehaven, Middlesbrough, TS2 1SW

You will be working at The Bridge, a specialist inpatient neurological rehabilitation and complex care service. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team you will provide care and support for people with neurological illnesses, acquired brain and spinal cord injuries.
