We are delighted to offer an opportunity for motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Theatre Practitioners (Registered Nurses or Operating Department Practitioners) to join our dynamic and supportive Theatre Department
This is a particularly exciting time to join the Trust, as we are expanding our surgical services with the opening of a brand-new Surgical Hub, which will include two state-of-the-art orthopaedic theatres. This development will enhance our elective capacity, improve patient flow, and support excellence in surgical care
We are seeking enthusiastic theatre practitioners with current NMC/HCPC registration, who will play a key role in delivering safe, high quality perioperative care withing a multidisciplinary team
You will have the opportunity to develop your skills in a variety of specialties, including Orthopaedics.
Previous experience is desirable, but we also welcome applications from newly qualified practitioners.

The surgery division at MKUH, which covers specialties including theatres and the Intensive Care Unit, offers a variety of roles and opportunities, both clinical and non-clinical. The division are looking for passionate, enthusiastic and forward-thinking professionals to join the team.
MKUH is one of the leading hospitals in Europe for implementing robotics to assist in surgery, becoming the first in the continent to use the CMR Versius robot for gynaecological surgery. Since its introduction in 2019, the theatres team have completed over 500 surgical cases, the first hospital in the UK to reach this milestone, achieving this in March 2023.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will have excellent communication skills, be passionate about delivering high quality care, eager to learn and develop and be able to work flexibly across a range of theatre specialties.
Clinical:
- Assess, develop, implement and evaluate patient care when receiving the patient into the theatre environment, whilst supporting the patient through invasive procedures and during handover at the completion of the anaesthetic/surgical procedure.
- Prepare, assemble and check theatre and anaesthetic equipment, planning and organising their own time. Ensuring the provision of equipment and stock for procedures planned. Assist senior staff in forward planning of theatre stock as directed Rotating stock as necessary and notify senior members of staff when applicable.
Clinical: (Scrub)
Provide skilled scrub assistance for a range of surgical specialities, such as robotic surgery, general surgery, ENT, ophthalmology, gynaecology, urology, orthopaedic and emergency surgery, ensuring safe, efficient, patient centred care.
- Assist in at least two areas of practice (scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery) to support service flexibility.

- Experience of working within 2 areas within the theatre department – scrub, recovery, aneasthetic

- Understanding theatre safety principles ( WHO checklist, infection control, aseptic technique)
- Ability to manage and prepare surgical instruments and equipment
