Job overview
We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated individual to join the SWLSTG Perinatal Service as a Team Manager. This is an exciting 9-month secondment opportunity for an experienced Nurse or Allied Health Professional with strong leadership skills, a commitment to high-quality care, and a passion for improving outcomes for women, babies and families during the perinatal period.
SWLSTG Perinatal Mental Health Service serves the London boroughs of Wandsworth, Merton, Sutton, Kingston and Richmond. It consists of a multidisciplinary team of clinicians with specialist training and expertise, working in the community to address the complex mental health needs of women in the perinatal period. The multidisciplinary team includes Clinical Service Lead, Team Managers, Lead Consultant, Consultant Psychiatrists, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Psychologists and Psychotherapist, Specialist Nurses, Nursery Nurses, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, Peer Support Workers, a Specialist Mental Health Midwife and administrative staff.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide operational and clinical leadership to the community perinatal team, supporting the delivery of safe, compassionate and evidence-based care in line with Trust policies, professional standards and national perinatal mental health guidance. Working as one of two Team Managers and with the support of a dedicated Perinatal Clinical Service Lead, Lead Psychologist and Lead Consultant, they will support a multidisciplinary team, ensuring effective supervision, appraisal, governance, performance oversight and service development.
The successful candidate will bring excellent clinical knowledge of mental health, sound decision-making skills, and experience of working collaboratively with partner agencies, including maternity services, health visiting, social care, community mental health teams and voluntary sector organisations.
This role offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of specialist perinatal mental health services, strengthen multidisciplinary working, and support positive outcomes at a critical stage in the lives of women, babies and families.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide effective day-to-day management of Perinatal Mental Health Team in accordance with the Operational Policy.
To ensure the day-to-day management of the team, achievement of performance standards and regular provision of performance information.
The Team Manager has an internal role in coordinating the functioning of the team and an external role in maintaining contact with service users, carers and other agencies, and representing the team externally
To provide effective professional supervision to some qualified members of the team and management supervision to other members of the team.
To manage and develop a responsive community mental health service to meet the needs of the local population.
To manage services against agreed health and local authority targets and outcomes framework.
To manage and develop staff through the Knowledge & Skills Framework or equivalent appraisal process.
To enable other staff to reflect on their own values, priorities, interests and effectiveness through the provision of professional and clinical supervision in accordance with the Trust procedure.
To ensure effective budget management of staffing, commissioning and where appropriate, individualised budgets.
The post holder will work with staff to develop clinical expertise and high standards of practice.
