Job summary

We are looking for a reliable and motivated Vasectomy Surgical Assistant (HCA) to support our clinical team during local anaesthetic vasectomy clinics. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a specialist surgical service, providing high-quality patient care and supporting a safe and efficient clinical environment.

Working alongside experienced clinicians, you will play a key role in preparing treatment rooms, supporting patients throughout their visit, maintaining infection prevention standards, and assisting during procedures. Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will support the delivery of vasectomy clinics by preparing clinical rooms, equipment and consumables, maintaining a sterile environment, and assisting clinicians during procedures. Responsibilities will also include supporting patient identification and dignity processes, assisting with documentation, managing clinical waste and sharps safely, monitoring patients during their visit, and escalating any concerns appropriately. The role requires a strong commitment to patient safety, teamwork, and high standards of care.

Job responsibilities

The Vasectomy Surgical Assistant (Healthcare Assistant) will support the safe and effective delivery of vasectomy clinics, working alongside clinicians and the wider multidisciplinary team. The post holder will help ensure a high standard of patient care throughout the patient journey while maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient clinical environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing treatment rooms, equipment, instruments and consumables prior to clinic sessions.
  • Assisting clinicians during vasectomy procedures in line with local policies and protocols.
  • Supporting patients before, during and after procedures, ensuring privacy, dignity and comfort at all times.
  • Undertaking patient observations and reporting any concerns to the clinical team.
  • Maintaining infection prevention and control standards, including cleaning and decontamination processes.
  • Ensuring clinical areas remain stocked and organised throughout clinics.
  • Assisting with accurate record keeping and documentation as required.
  • Managing clinical waste and sharps safely in accordance with organisational policies.
  • Escalating any patient safety, safeguarding or clinical concerns appropriately.
  • Contributing to a positive team environment and supporting continuous service improvement.
