The TSSU (Sterile Services) department is an enthusiastic team who work in a busy fast paced department. The Sterile Services Department reprocesses surgical instruments for the Trust and surrounding areas. The Trust is not only tackling the waiting list backlog following the Covid pandemic but has also increased in Trauma procedures at the WRH. This has created more Sterile Services Assistant job opportunities within the TSSU department. The shift available is Saturday 10am-6pm and Sunday 8am-4pm (15 hours per week). This is a physically demanding role with repetitive tasks. This role involves periods of standing and manual handling duties with some sets weighing up to 13KG. There is an enhanced payment for working the weekend. The department offers a six month on the job training programme.. The department is looking to offer an NVQ qualification in the future. Opportunities do arise within the department to progress to a Supervisor and potentially a future manager.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role are the collection of used surgical instruments, preparing the instruments for the washer disinfector. The reassembly of the surgical instrument trays, closely inspecting for cleanliness and damage, wrapping of the surgical instruments. The sterilisation and delivery of the reprocessed surgical instruments.
