We have a rare and exciting opportunity for an experienced, dynamic and enthusiastic physiotherapist to undertake the role of a static Band 6 Physiotherapist working at the NRU at Royal Preston Hospital.
Our 16-bedded inpatient neuro-rehab unit based at Royal Preston Hospital is a regional centre - providing specialist rehabilitation for patients across Lancashire and South Cumbria. We are looking for a passionate, motivated and caring physiotherapist who has experience in neurological assessment, treatment and discharge planning.
You will work in a friendly and supportive integrated Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy team, which is part of a large multi-disciplinary team providing diverse rehab for patients with complex neurological care needs.

Main duties of the job
You should have clinical experience of working with patients who have complex neurological impairment, and have clinical reasoning skills that allow you to provide individualised assessment and treatment of complex movement problems.
LTHTR is a regional centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery, a Major Trauma Centre and has recently welcomed a newly expanded Critical Care Unit. You will work with patients of varying ages and backgrounds that have experienced life-changing neurological illness or injury. Common conditions include Traumatic Brain Injury, Hypoxic Brain Injury, Encephalitis, Spinal Cord Injury and Guillian-Barre Syndrome.
As a physiotherapy team we follow a Bobath centred approach to rehabilitation aiming to treat every patient as an individual using normal movement knowledge, therapeutic handling skills and specialist treatment skills. Alongside developing specialist clinical rehab skills there will be the opportunity to attend courses (both internally and externally) to develop your skills further.
Your role will involve leading patient goal setting meetings, discharge planning and working closely with other health professionals both within and outside of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust.
We are a well-established and supportive MDT including Speech Therapists, Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine and Neuropsychologists. We also regularly work with other professionals such as Orthoptists and Orthotists to provide our patients’ holistic care.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
| Our ethos at the NRU is very much focussed on empowering staff to undertake leadership at all levels, and to continually develop services to improve quality of care to patients throughout their rehab journey. From a leadership and management perspective your role will allow opportunity to lead service developments and implement quality improvement projects, whilst also supporting team members’ development through supervision, appraisal and mentorship. There is an expectation that you will participate in provision of training to the wider MDT and acute teams for example therapeutic moving and handling training and rehab training programme. Alongside the day-to-day leadership and management tasks you will also have the opportunity to undertake formal training to develop your leadership and management skills. Each day working at the NRU is different to the next and you will be supported by a friendly team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists and therapy assistants along the way! | |
