The role:
The Day Surgery Unit (DSU) at the New Victoria Hospital (NVACH) are looking for an Anaesthetic / Post Anaesthetic Care Unit Practitioner (PACU) to join the team. You are required to be a First Level Registered Nurse or Registered Operating Department Practitioner. Experience in the Anaesthetic / PACU Practitioner environment is desirable. The DSU at the New Victoria consists of 8 theatres, a Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU), a treatment room and a 23 hour stay ward. The theatre sessions consist of a variety of specialties including; Orthopaedics, General, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Maxilla Facial, Gynaecology, Plastics and a Pain Service. The department is fully committed to increasing capacity which will require the successful applicant to care for patients with increasingly complex needs in the future; in line with the British Association of Days Surgery (BADS).
You will receive comprehensive in-house and external training to develop specialist airway and pain management skills within our recovery team in line with the AAGBI guidelines. You will also be trained to the newly developed BADS and AFPP competencies to work effectively in our Day Surgery Units. Experience within a high level of acute care is desirable but not essential Day Surgery is a fast paced environment and collaborative working is requisite as the successful candidate will be required to work in multiple areas during their shift. This unit is friendly and promotes ongoing personal and professional development. The ability to work on your own initiative but also as part of an integrated team is required.
You are required to demonstrate flexibility in the department as this post requires the successful candidate to become Dual Trained and skilled in at least 2 areas of the unit e.g.Scrub/Anaesthetics, Anaesthetics/Recovery. Furthermore, you will be expected where necessary to engage in multi-site working within South Sector NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde in order to achieve the needs of the service.
As part of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s pre-employment checking for all appointed candidates, evidence of current or predicted NMC/HCPC registration will be required prior to start date. You should therefore note candidates who are unable to provide confirmation ofcurrent or anticipated registration, in line with projected start date for this post, will not be shortlisted for interview.
