Clinical Pharmacy Technician (Higher Level) - Renal medicine

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated pharmacy technician to join the pharmacy team at University Hospital Monklands. To work within the renal multidisciplinary team under the supervision of renal pharmacists. Contribute to quality pharmaceutical care of patients; this will include the planned tacrolimus drug switch liaising with the current transplant team and primary care colleagues. The post will also include general renal work including ward cover, supporting renal clinics and other roles which may develop within the renal team.

Additional Information Specific to the Role

  • This post will require an enthusiastic, forward thinking individual with excellent communication and time management skills to ensure the provision of an effective, safe and person-centred approach to delivering pharmaceutical care to renal patients.
  • Clinical duties include but are not limited to: Supporting medicines reconciliation for renal patients, particularly at admission, discharge, and outpatient clinics. Educate patients on the use of renal-specific medications. Assist in the monitoring and follow-up of medication adherence and patient understanding.
  • The post holder will coordinate the safe, timely, and efficient supply of renal-specific medicines, including high-cost and unlicensed drugs. Support the renal clinical pharmacists focusing on the tacrolimus drug switch for the initial 24 months.
  • This post will involve liaising with patients, the renal team, GP practices, primary pharmacy teams and community pharmacies.
  • This post will provide opportunities to further develop your skills and to support the continuous drive to improve cost effective and safer use of medicines.

  • Substantial experience as a qualified pharmacy technician in hospital pharmacy.
  • Experience in dispensing Discharge/OPD/in-patient prescriptions.
  • Experience in providing a ward/department stock top-up service.
  • Experience in supervision of other staff or of a functional area of pharmacy.
  • Thorough understanding of hospital pharmacy services.
  • Computer skills/key board skills.
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise work.
  • Team player.

Please note for all vacancies where a driving licence is required this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.
