Staff Nurse – Bolton SACT Unit *This role is predominantly based at the Churchill Unit at Royal Bolton Hospital* An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the SACT Team at Royal Bolton Hospital, this is one of the Outreach SACT Services provided by The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. The Churchill unit is a friendly unit which provides oncology outpatient clinics and delivery of outpatient SACT. In addition, the department undertakes CVAD care and other supportive activities.
GENERAL DUTIES 1. Provide a supportive role within the SACT unit at the Christie for nursing, medical and clerical Staff. 2. Undertake the nursing care of patients, ensuring privacy & dignity is maintained whilst being aware of physical and psychological needs 3. To give a clear and accurate update at change of duties and ensure accurate documentation of nursing interventions 4. To participate in the rehabilitation of patients and give any necessary instructions, including discharge information 5. Participate in nursing procedures appropriate to the department 6. Support and assist in the induction/training of junior staff/Health Care Assistant’s acting as mentor to designated staff 7. To welcome patients to the unit and its routine 8. Be able to act as ward co-ordinator and ensure the safe and timely management of patients 9. To liaise with medical and non-medical personnel and community organisations 10. Assist with clinic management where required. 11. To highlight areas of improvement/development within the department and undertake relevant projects 12. To act as support for other nurses in relation to SACT and oncology care 13. Safely deliver SACT to Christie patients attending the unit 14. Assist in the provision of meals / refreshments for patients whilst meeting their nutritional needs 15. Assist in the general housekeeping duties of the unit. Liaise with individual responsible for stores/stationery and ordering and assist in the maintenance of stock levels 16. Handles patients personal possessions, ensure cash and valuables kept securely 17. Correct care and custody of controlled drugs and aid the safe storage of medicines and the return of any unused chemotherapy to pharmacy EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT 1. The staff nurse is responsible for their own personal development and maintaining a personal development plan 2. To complete the Ward introductory pack and preceptor pack if applicable 3. Complete Clinical Skills Training and the UKON’s SACT passport 4. Annually attend all mandatory study days including Resuscitation, AIMs, moving & handling and fire safety 5. To complete level 3 SACT administration programme to administer cytotoxic drugs and educate patients regarding their treatment PERSONAL 1. Demonstrate a pleasant and approachable manner and help create and promote a good working relationship 2. Show professional and courteous manner when answering the telephone and other enquires 3. Maintain confidentiality with regard to patient information both at work and outside of working hours 4. To be aware of and adhere to all policies including; sickness and absence, confidentiality, uniform and responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 5. Report and record all accidents and complaints according to the agreed policy 6. To be aware of limitations and utilise the preceptor system for any issues that arise 7. To show respect for members of the team and endorse the SACT Day Services philosophy of giving mutual support
