We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse (NMC) who has a genuine interest in urology and a commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. You will be compassionate and approachable, with the ability to support and reassure patients undergoing potentially sensitive or anxiety-provoking procedures. Experience in urology, surgical nursing, or outpatient clinic settings is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided, and experience in male and female catheterisation is desirable. You will be keen to develop specialist skills, confident in working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, and have excellent communication skills with a strong focus on patient education and support.
Main duties of the job
The post will encompass the dimensions of the Staff Nurse role in supporting the urology outpatient unit. This will include assisting with flexible cystoscopy, alongside broader responsibilities within general diagnostic urology.
The role will include:
- Support nursing and medical colleagues in the delivery of specialised patient care in the urology investigation unit.
- The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the speciality.
- To be responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of direct patient care with supervision from senior staff.
- To support the Charge Nurse/Senior Sister to monitor the safety and quality of care for patients.
- In the absence of the Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to be responsible for the day-to-day management of the unit.
- To manage a group of Nursing Assistants and assign delegated tasks and responsibility as appropriate.
- To ensure a positive focussed service incorporating patient’s feedback to maintain and improve patient care.
- To act as an effective role model promoting excellence through practice.
