Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dedicated practitioner to work within a service that is embracing positive change and developing pathways of care to meet the diverse needs of older people within an inpatient setting.

The team comprises of a Consultant Psychiatrist, Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist. You will be working alongside a dedicated team of nursing staff including Advanced Clinical Practitioner, Clinical team leaders, staff nurses and health care assistants.

The post holder will be supported closely by the Ward Manager and Lead Nurse and the Matron. Recognising the national pressures within acute inpatient services, South West Yorkshire Partnership Trust have developed a priority inpatient program focussing on the development of our inpatient services with priority focus on workforce, clinical pathways, and management of clinical acuity.

The Poplars is a mental health unit for individuals with either a diagnosis or presentation of symptoms of dementia. The Poplars predominantly supports individuals who are over 65 years of age, although on occasion there have been admissions of those who are under 65 years old. It is a 12 bedded mixed gender ward. The Poplars is a service that runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an innovative, committed, and caring practitioner. The successful candidate will be required to work autonomously and as part of the MDT, demonstrating sound clinical decision making with a passion for working in within in-patient older peoples service.

As a Staff Nurse on a busy inpatient unit, you will support the MDT in the provision of high-quality care for older people with a diagnosis of dementia. You will be confident, have good people skills and able to challenge tactfully and constructively and able to gain the respect and confidence of nursing, medical and MDT staff. The successful candidate will be expected to work a 24hr shift system so to ensure care is provided across the day and night. You will also be supported to gain invaluable experience and grow in confidence Applicants are encouraged to contact the ward for further information.
