Staff Nurse - Paediatric Haematology/Oncology

As a Band 5 Staff Nurse within Paediatric Haematology and Oncology at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, you will play a vital role in delivering compassionate, high‑quality care to children and young people with complex and often life‑changing conditions. Working as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will support patients and families through diagnosis, treatment and recovery, providing truly holistic care. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• Royal Hospital for Children
• Fixed-term for 6 months
• Days, nights and weekend working

Key responsibilities:

• Deliver safe, effective and person‑centred nursing care to children and young people within the paediatric haematology and oncology setting
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care in partnership with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team
• Build trusting therapeutic relationships through clear, sensitive and professional communication
• Contribute to the delivery of specialist and high dependency care, including bone marrow transplant and systemic anti‑cancer therapies once trained
• Maintain accurate, timely and confidential documentation in line with professional and organisational standards
• Support health promotion, discharge planning and education for children and families to enable safe care at home
• Actively participate in audit, research, service improvement and the ongoing development of evidence‑based practice

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

• Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
• Evidence of relevant post‑registration experience or strong interest in paediatric nursing
• Sound knowledge of holistic child and family‑centred care within an acute clinical setting
• Ability to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills
• Commitment to ongoing professional development, mandatory training and NMC revalidation
• Awareness of clinical governance, patient safety and professional accountability
• Willingness to undertake specialist training, including chemotherapy administration as appropriate
