Job overview

Our friendly, dynamic, and talented team requires a motivated and experienced children's nurse to join them. Interested? Looking for a challenge? Do you have experience of working in a Children's Emergency Department or HDU/PICU setting?

This is a rewarding but demanding post that requires committed and dedicated nurses to provide quality care to infants, children, young people, and their families/carers from a diverse population. We offer all of our Band 5 Staff Nurses the opportunity to undertake a nurse-in-charge programme, so if you are an experienced nurse looking for more responsibility, we will positively support your development.

The Paediatric A&E Department at Hillingdon Hospital is a separate unit based within the main A&E Department. On average, 25% percent of our emergency attendances are infants, children, and young people. We endeavour to provide the highest possible level of care to them at all times. The department has close links with the paediatric wards, specialist nurses, and our community nursing team.

Please note we will only be able to interview experienced NMC registered Children's Nurses.

An interview date is yet to be confirmed, we reserve the right to close the post early once sufficient applications have been received.

Main duties of the job

  • Under the supervision of senior colleagues be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
  • Act as a supervisor to student nurses in training and assessor once full training is completed.
  • Under the supervision of senior colleagues facilitate the professional and clinical development of paediatric practice through the application of research.
  • Under the supervision of senior colleagues provide clinical support to the infants’, children’s and young people’s Emergency Department.

  • To ensure that patient documentation is accurate and legible and is aware of the legal implication of these documents.
  • To be able to assess child’s individual needs and have the ability to recognise a sick child and initiate urgent when necessary.

A passion for children's emergency care, with proven communication/assessment skills, enthusiasm, and the ability to be flexible are essential for this role. In exchange, we train all of our nurses in Manchester Triage, venepuncture, cannulation, and plaster of paris application. Those wishing to progress further will be able to apply for their APLS/EPLS certification, emergency Nurses Course and Advanced Trauma Nursing Courses.
