The role:

We are looking to recruit a motivated Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our Orthopaedic Outpatients and Fracture Clinic team at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

The post holder will work within a nurse‑led fracture clinic, providing high‑quality, patient‑centred care to trauma and orthopaedic patients. The role includes assessment, treatment, patient education and discharge planning within both face‑to‑face and virtual clinic settings.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop specialist skills within a supportive multidisciplinary team.

You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

This is a permanent, full-time post of 36 hours per week.

This role is based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

The shift pattern is Monday-Friday. Dayshift Only.

Key responsibilities:

Clinical

  • To assess patient needs, plan/implement and evaluate a programme of care which is evidence based utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background and ensure involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others.
  • Work as an independent staff nurse within ‘Specialised Nurse Led’ clinics for both orthopaedic and fracture conditions.
  • Work towards providing specialist knowledge of casting products in relation to selection, application, removal and patient information about cast care.
  • Work towards demonstrating the safe & effective application of a variety of casts.
  • Provide advice for other departments both within and outwith the hospital for patients in a cast or splint.
  • Ideally proficiency in all aspects of casting application and trouble shooting in identifying appropriate intervention required to avoid compromising patient care.
  • Demonstrate competency in Venepuncture and Pin & Wire Removal.
  • To make diagnostic decisions based on interpretation of x-rays and other test results during Nurse Led Clinics.
  • To show a level of competence to assess, plan a programme of care and discharge patients from Nurse Led Clinics on a daily basis, including wound care.
  • Work independently within the Virtual Fracture Clinic clinically assessing patients via the telephone and ensuring clinical decisions are enacted.
  • Maintain patient records in line with NMC guidelines for records and record keeping.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Essential:

Registered Nurse (NMC)

Effective communication and teamwork skills

Commitment to evidence‑based practice and patient safety

Desirable:

Casting experience or willingness to develop skills in cast application and removal

Experience within orthopaedics or outpatient settings
