Our busy wards at Melbury Lodge Winchester cater for patients with acute mental health needs and are designed in conjunction with patients to develop an environment that is supportive for them.

We are seeking psychologically minded, compassionate nurses looking to develop their clinical & therapeutic skills who share the trust's aim to work alongside the people we support.

We work closely with our neighbouring wards creating a supportive network that helps us provide consistent high quality care.

Our team includes nurses, mental health practitioners, healthcare support workers, doctors, consultant psychiatrists, occupational therapists, and psychologists. Every team member plays a part in helping patients feel understood, supported and empowered in their recovery.

Main duties of the job

As a Staff Nurse, the post holder plays a vital role in delivering high-quality mental health care through clinical expertise, leadership, and professional integrity. They will participate in clinical and management supervision, attend developmental training, and occasionally take charge of the ward. Adhering to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct is essential at all times. Under the guidance of the Ward Manager and Nurse Team Leader, the Staff Nurse will foster effective communication and teamwork, report clinical and professional concerns, and assist in managing complaints.

Clinically, the Staff Nurse will assess referred cases, plan and evaluate care for allocated patients, and contribute to ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings. They will ensure safe and effective nursing procedures, including medication management, and uphold patients' rights under the Mental Health Act. Educational responsibilities include supporting research, teaching students and junior staff, supervising clinical placements, and assisting with induction training. In terms of security, the Staff Nurse will implement safety policies and ensure the secure custody of patients in line with their leave status, maintaining vigilance across the unit, grounds, and community.
