The Speech and Language Therapy team are looking to recruit 4 Speech and Language Therapy Associate Practitioners to join an excellent, relatively small and highly professional team.

The post holder(s) will work with children under the guidance and direction of Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) and alongside other Associate Practitioners/Assistants. There may also be the chance to work alongside the wider multi-disciplinary team including Occupational Therapists, Educational Psychologists, teachers and teaching assistants.

The role will involve carrying out evidence-based speech and language therapy programs devised by fully qualified SLTs, either 1:1 or in groups. The post holder will have knowledge of child development and experience in carrying out intervention programmes. They will be confident in demonstrating and explaining advice and strategies to parents/carers.

Applicants will have a professional, friendly manner, be able to work well under pressure with a flexible approach to work. The post holder will be an integral part of a supportive and innovative team where training and personal development is actively encouraged.

This post requires the ability to drive around the County as required and so a car driver is essential.

Main duties of the job

To support the delivery of targeted intervention for children in the Early years and KS1 under the guidance of a speech and language therapist

To assist in assessing/screening the needs of children with speech and language difficulties, liaising with SALT as appropriate.

Provide individual and small group support to pre-school children presenting with complex clinical presentations.

Write clinical notes and support target writing. Engage with reviews and further assessment as required. Support parents/carers to engage fully with services and support onward referrals as required.

Provide Nursery/Home visits as required.

Liaise with other professionals in health and education on a regular basis.

Experience

Essential

  • Awareness of multi-disciplinary team working
  • At least 2 years’ experience working with pre school children and their families
  • Experience of training parents/carers or other professionals

Desirable

  • An awareness of the Experts at Hand SEND Reform White Paper

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • Foundation Degree / Diploma in Early Years Care and Education or similar
  • At least 2 years’ experience working with pre-school/school aged children and their families

Desirable

  • Accredited courses such as Elklan, POPAT, Signalong, Attention Autism, Intensive Interaction

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Essential

  • Post qualification experience working with children and parents/carers.
  • Evidence of working with pre-school children with Autism
  • Evidence of working with pre-school children with a range of needs including some complex needs.
