Job overview

We have full time vacancies in our SLT Assistant team.  The post holder will join our existing team of 12 SLT assistants to support the work of the SLT department.  The role will involve working in local schools and/or nurseries to screen children's communication skills, deliver language groups and train staff in the settings.  It will also involve jointly running groups in clinics and supporting clinical and administration tasks for the wider SLT team.  There will be an opportunity to develop your knowledge and understanding of communication development in children.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Main responsibilities:

  • Screening children's communication skills in nurseries or schools.
  • Leading language groups in nurseries, schools and/or clinics across the 2 boroughs.
  • Supporting nursery staff to deliver groups in their nursery settings
  • Supporting administration for the Early Years SLT team and other SLT teams for example: data entry, preparing resources, ordering resources, and various other admin tasks

Essential

  • Demonstrates clear communication skills, both spoken and written.
  • Able to manage and prioritise competing demands, seeking advice when necessary.
  • Able to develop practice to meet individual families’ circumstances, including regard for cultural and linguistic differences

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of the role of the Speech and Language Therapist and the assistant's role in supporting the work of the team

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of administrative work
  • Experience of working with children in a community setting

Desirable

  • Experience of working with children under 5.
  • Experience of training/coaching others
  • Experience of working as an SLT Assistant
