Speech and Language Therapist
B6 posts (B5-6 developmental option) – 2 WTE 36hr posts
We are delighted to be advertising these posts which will provide the successful candidates with opportunities to develop their skills and experience across several areas of our adult service. We welcome applications from existing Band 5 or Band 6 Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) looking to consolidate their skills, and we also encourage applications from newly qualified SLTs, who would be appointed on a developmental basis (competency based). We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic and flexible individuals to join our team. Part-time options would be considered for the right candidate. There is a requirement for all candidates to hold a full driving licence. Dysphagia training is desirable, however, if not already undertaken, this training would be provided.
Post 1 Band 6 (5-6 developmental option); 36 hours - Aberdeen HSCP Stroke Rehabilitation and Community Adult SLT Team
18hrs of this post will sit within the Specialist Rehabilitation Unit for Stroke at Woodend Hospital. The successful candidate will join a small team of experienced SLTs and a well-established multi-disciplinary team. You will work primarily in an in-patient setting supporting stroke patients through their post-acute rehabilitation. There may also be opportunities to support patients across the wider Stroke pathway as required.
The remaining 18hrs will sit within the Community Adult team which provides an extremely diverse service covering a wide range of clients ranging in age from 16 to 100+ and with a variety of presenting conditions. Clients are seen in a range of settings including clinics, domiciliary and Care Homes. We have a dysfluency service, Dementia Champions, and run regular groups for people with Parkinson’s disease and for people with Dementia and their families. There are also opportunities to develop skills around low and high-tech Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC).
Post 2 Band 6; 36 hours - Aberdeen HSCP Adult Frailty SLT Team and Community Adult SLT Team
This post provides opportunities within the Community Adult team (as noted in post 1) and also provides 18hrs a week within the SLT Frailty team, which provides assessment, advice and management for patients accessing the Frailty pathway within the Specialist Old Age Rehabilitation Service (SOARS). The Frailty team have a strong focus on keeping people at home (including care homes) by providing timely and targeted input. The post holder must be dysphagia trained as the majority of referrals within Frailty are for those experiencing difficulties with eating drinking and swallowing. The Team also provide input into the Hospital at Home service. There are great opportunities to maintain continuity of care for clients and their families through the various parts of their journey including end of life and palliative management. There will also be some opportunity to experience working with this caseload in an in-patient setting.
In time it may be possible to offer successful candidates opportunities to experience working within other parts of our service. This may include Neurological rehabilitation, the Stroke Supported Discharge Team and our Grampian-wide Videofluoroscopy Service.
The Aberdeen Health and Social Care Partnership SLT team have a wide range of skills and experience and are friendly and supportive. An established supervision structure is in place for all team members.
