We are looking for both established specialty doctors looking for a new challenge or for post-CCT trainees, wanting a bit more experience before stepping into a consultant role. We also have experience of successfully supporting colleagues through FRCEM and CESR.

Main duties of the job

The post is based in the Emergency Department at Airedale General Hospital.

The post holder/s will be responsible to the ED consultants and will be expected to:

  • Be involved in the initial reception and management of patients attending the Department.
  • Be involved in the teaching of junior doctors, medical students and nursing staff.
  • Undertake some administrative responsibilities, e.g. daily auditing of x-ray and pathology results.
  • Assist the consultants in the running of the shop floor, ensuring patients are seen by appropriate staff in a timely fashion, that junior staff are appropriately supervised and receive adequate rest/meal breaks.

The post-holder undertakes exceptionally to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances essential to the continuity of patient care.

Skills

Essential

  • Excellent Clinical and Non-technical skills in order to be competent as the most senior doctor on duty (Emergency Physician In Charge)
  • Excellent communication and teamworking skills

Desirable

  • Level 1 Emergency Medicine Ultrasound skills
  • Excellent teaching skills

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience at postgraduate level including proven experience in Emergency Medicine (EM)
  • Proven experience of UK EM experience at ST3-level (RCEM Tier 3 level)

Desirable

  • Already working as a middle grade (ST4+ level) in a UK Emergency Department
  • Involvement in Quality Improvement projects
  • CCT in Emergency Medicine

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
  • Valid ALS, APLS and ATLS certificates (or equivalent)

Desirable

  • RCEM examination success
