Job summary

We are looking for a Specialty Doctor in Neurorehabilitation to join the team at the Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre in London part time post

Main duties of the job

  • Undertaking assessments for admissions to the service
  • In-patient care, including weekly MDT ward rounds and ward rounds with GP
  • Attending family meetings, case review meetings and discharge planning meetings as required
  • Practise evidence-based care through national standards and guidelines
  • Prepare for and participate in external reviews (CQC, Quality Network reviews); liaison with NHSE/ICB.

Job responsibilities

The Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre comprises two units. The Thames Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit (21 beds), is an NHSE-funded Level 1C neuro-behavioural unit for patients with complex cognitive and/or behavioural rehabilitation needs due to acquired brain injury or neurological disease. The Heathside Neuro-disability Unit (18 beds), is an NHSE-funded Level 2A unit for patients requiring complex physical neuro-rehabilitation.

The site is part of the wider Active Care Group Neuro Network (consisting of 25+ sites) nationally. Blackheath was recently rated as GOOD by the CQC.

This is a unique opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to work in a Level 1c specialist neuro-rehabilitation service. The post-holder would be based mainly on the Thames Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit, alongside the Consultant Neuropsychiatrist and another experienced Speciality Doctor. There is cross-cover with the Specialty Doctor on HNDU. Patients are referred mainly by London Major Trauma centres and central teaching hospitals, which affords the opportunity to gain invaluable experience in the assessment and management of complex and uncommon neuropsychiatric conditions. We have links with UCLH and Kings College London and involvement in clinical research is encouraged. There are no on-call commitments.
